Summary:

Abduali Tuganbaevich Kaidarov is a scientist, a world-famous Turkologist, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, honorary academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Bashkortostan. The scientist has published more than 400 scientifi c works on various fi elds of Turkic philology, namely lexicology, lexicography, sociolinguistics, terminology, etymology, onomastics, phraseology and paremiology. It is impossible to imagine Uyghur and Kazakh lexicography of the mid-20th and early 21st century without the works of the scientist. He was either a compiler of dictionary entries or took direct part in the preparation of lexicographic works. The scientist was a member of the editorial board for the preparation of academic dictionaries for publication. Two scientifi c directions developed by the scientist for the fi rst time in Turkology which had a signifi cant impact on the vector of all subsequent research in the Turkic and Mongolian languages deserve special attention. The fi rst direction is the scientist’s research on the phono-morpho-semantic analysis of the basic vocabulary of the Kazakh language at the level of monosyllabs. This work laid the foundation for a whole direction in the study of the structure of monosyllabic roots in Turkology and Mongolian studies. The second direction is the development of a fundamental four-volume ethnolinguistic dictionary of the Kazakh language. Academician A.T. Kaidarov in this work identifi ed and showed the features of the national psychology, history and culture of the Kazakh ethnos. His work served as an example for the beginning of the creation of similar dictionaries in the Bashkir, Chuvash and Tatar lexicography. In recent years, the scientist has been actively working on sociolinguistic problems of bilingualism and multilingualism, individual problems of interaction between contacting languages and issues of language construction in Kazakhstan. With his scientifi c works he made a signifi cant contribution to strengthening the position of the Kazakh language in the new realities. The scientist created his own scientifi c school and became a mentor who opened the way to science for many talented researchers. His students work not only in universities and research institutes of Kazakhstan, but also in Russia (in Moscow, Abakan, Kemerovo, Nalchik, Ufa), Uzbekistan (in Tashkent, Nukus), Kyrgyzstan, China, Mongolia and other countries. A.T. Kaidarov was the leader and organizer of Kazakhstan and All-Union humanitarian science. The scientist has headed the Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 17 years. He was the chairman of the specialized Council for the protection of candidate and doctoral dissertations for 23 years, for many years he was a member of the Committee for the award of the Lenin and State Prize for Science and Technology under the Council of Ministers of the USSR and was also a member of the Higher Attestation Commission of the USSR.
