The article is dedicated to the prominent historian, professor, author of numerous scientifi c articles, monographs and books on the history of Bashkortostan Anvar Zakirovich Asfandiyarov. It shows the development of his scientifi c career within the walls of the Institute of History, Language and Literature of the Bashkir branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences (now the IIYaL UFRC RAS). The main achievement of A.Z. Asfandiyarov is that his books and publications and appearances in the media caused an unprecedented interest in the history of the “small homeland” and ultimately revived the historical memory of Bashkortostan. The time spent in the creative and demanding research environment of the IIYaL played a major role in the development of his scientifi c career. The personal qualities of A.Z. Asfandiyarov and his professional skills that he acquired during these years are the basis for the outstanding results that he achieved in his scientifi c career.
