The article is dedicated to French loanwords in the Turkish language and a comparative analysis of these words with their equivalents in the closely related Azerbaijani language. Turkish and Azerbaijani belong to the Oghuz group of Turkic languages. Despite their close interrelation, there are certain differences between these languages due to their unique historical development and the influence of various historical events, cultures and languages. The Turkish language includes a significant number of Gallicisms which are borrowed directly from French. They mostly retain the phonetics of the source language and only occasionally adapting to Turkish rules. In Azerbaijani and French borrowings are less common. Indigenous linguistic resources are often used to create new words and concepts. French loanwords in Azerbaijani are mainly mediated through Russian where they have already undergone phonetic adaptation. A selection of the main lexical groups of Gallicisms in Turkish is compared with these same words in Azerbaijani.
