In this article we will examine one of the groups of names of medicinal plants in the Bashkir language and its dialects. As sources, we used the vocabulary of the Bashkir language, which is contained in various lexicographic publications. We also used dialect texts that were collected in the Dialectological Database of the Bashkir Language Machine Fund. The object of our research was the lexico-semantic subgroup “trees” in the lexico-semantic group “Medicinal plants” in the Bashkir language. In the article, we analyzed and systematized the scientific and dialectal names of the most common wild medicinal trees, such as tirak (poplar), shyrshy (spruce) and tal (willow). These words have well-defined botanical characteristics and form a terminological core around which a complex system of species names is formed (more than 10 variants for each basic concept) by adding clarifying components. During the study, the distribution areas of various variants of these plant names were identified. These phytonyms have deep roots in the Turkic languages, which is confirmed by their similarity in different Turkic languages with minor phonetic differences. The importance of these trees for the region is also reflected in the geographical names: names associated with these plants are widespread throughout Bashkortostan. In addition, the analysis of journalistic texts from the Bashkir Language Machine Fund shows that the use of pharmacophytonyms confirms the importance of traditional medicine in Bashkir life. Bashkir traditional medicine has many applications and continues to play an important role in modern society.
