The article highlights S.I. Rudenko’s ethnographic expeditions in 1906, 1912, 1913, and 1952 to Bashkiria in order to study the history of the region, its physical type, economy, tribal structure, the material and spiritual culture of the Bashkirs. The exhibition and photographs collection by S.I. Rudenko are kept in the Russian Ethnographic Museum. They include various items of the XIX–XX centuries (household items, clothing, jewelry, weapons and other artifacts). They are of considerable value both to museum visitors and to scientists involved in various aspects of ethnological science, as they mostly represent unique collections of authentic endangered elements. Participation in complex expeditions, conducting archaeological, anthropological and ethnographic research allowed the scientist to better understand the ethnic history and ethnogenesis of the Bashkir people, their worldview, spiritual and material culture and to conduct zoning of the territory according to various characteristic features. S.I. Rudenko’s contribution to the ethnographic science of the Republic of Bashkortostan cannot be overestimated. The fundamental works of the scientist remain in demand today among domestic and foreign scientists. A number of photocopies of photographs taken by S.I. Rudenko are kept in the photo library of the Ethnology Department of the Order of the Badge of Honour Institute of History, Language and Literature of the Ufa Federal Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
