The article is based on the analysis of the fundamental work of the famous Russian and Soviet ethnographer Sergei Ivanovich Rudenko “Bashkirs. An Ethnological Monograph” which was published in two parts. An important problem of scientific significance is examined: forms of economic activity, everyday life, material and spiritual culture of the Bashkirs. Particular attention is paid to the position of women in the family and society. This topic was comprehensively covered in the second part of the scientific work of S.I. Rudenko “Everyday Life of the Bashkirs”, published in 1925. The purpose of the article is to show the attitude of the scientist to the interpretation of this issue and to identify the differences in the approaches to it of domestic researchers. Based on a large range of different sources (folklore, statistical data, scientific reference and local history literature, as well as personal observations), S.I. Rudenko conducted a comprehensive study and gave an objective assessment of the actual position of the Bashkir woman in the family and society. The study of the topic of the article was conducted taking into account the principles of historicism, objectivity and scientific character, which made it possible to achieve the stated goal, reveal the topic and draw appropriate conclusions.
