The article explores the nature and variety of traditional spiritual and moral values, and their relevance in the context of the diverse Russian nation which has to respond the fundamental question of existence in the current geopolitical situation – "to be or not to be?" Should Russia be considered a significant player in global history, safeguarding its diverse population and future generations, its unique cultural identity, and its technological, cultural, and moral independence from extremism, false ideals, and "false idols" of Faustian culture? As is well known, radical civilizational transformations in the recent history of the Russian Federation, orientation towards the West and its value orientations as an "ideal type" (M. Weber) the arrangements of national life and the spiritual sphere have caused serious damage to the national socio-cultural tradition, national spirituality and morality. Today, the Russian government is building its own world based on dialogical and equal communication with others, on the priority of its own national interests and the protection of its own people and its ancestral values, which for centuries have nourished the collective multicultural life with patriotism, citizenship, genuine faith, interethnic harmony, friendship, and respect for each other. Russian traditional values are rooted in the socio-cultural biography and historical memory of ethnic groups, reflecting their ideological, spiritual, moral, aesthetic, artistic, and other ideals, ideas about goodness, truth, and beauty, principles of co-existence and co-creation, which educate and consolidate. They offer proper guidelines for ensuring a stable, guaranteed and spiritual life, and are peculiar markers of both ethnic and civil identity. The axiosphere of modern Russian society is distinctive and unique, absorbing into its space key spiritual and cultural meanings determined by the peculiarities of mentality, religious beliefs, lifestyle, historical development, natural environment, etc. The value universe is quite mobile and open to new meanings, adapts to spiritual challenges, but always protects its humanistic and ethical "core" from destruction and reinterpretation. This "core" is the key basic meanings based on vital, "fateful" norms that have been tested by time and historical cataclysms to ensure the unity, reliable present and future of society, preserve socio-cultural memory and continuity of generations. Today, in the context of numerous threats to national and spiritual security, traditional Russian values and their purposeful cultivation as a response to geopolitical challenges are one of the most effective mechanisms for countering extremist ideology, attempts to split the united Russian society, and destroy the national socio-cultural tradition.
