Type: scientific article

Summary:

In this text, the author examines the modern understanding of interdisciplinarity and its application in prosopographical historical research. The author gives a general description of the three definitions of the term "prosopography": as a research method, an auxiliary historical discipline and research area. Then he lists the key features of prosopography, which has become increasingly popular in recent years, and wonders about its place in the structure of historical science, as well as the results obtained during the research, at the stage of interpretation and generalization of data. As a result of the analysis of methodology, approaches, technologies, methods, techniques and content of research in the field of prosopography, the author identifies and describes three main directions in this field: biographical, resource and analytical. The author also concludes that prosopography uses methods typical of historical science, as well as methods used in various humanities and natural sciences, such as history, linguistics, philology, sociology, political science, management, computer science and auxiliary historical disciplines. Based on the analysis of various prosopographical projects, the author describes methods of working with historiography at the stage of defining the research problem. Methods of working with various types of historical sources at the stage of their analysis and assessment of their representativeness are also considered. Finally, the author describes the methods of working with the research results at the stage of interpretation and generalization of data. The use of modern methods of computational linguistics, computer science, onomastics and chronology allow you to extract information and form a meta-source. At the analysis stage, Data Science methods are used to help reconstruct the biographies of specific people or to obtain generalized quantitative indicators (statistical data) for studying groups of individuals. In addition, the methods of sociography and historical science proper, as well as its branch sections, are used. They allow synthesizing the results obtained, interpreting them and integrating them into the historical context to create a narrative collective portrait or a collective biography. In the main part of the article, separate paragraphs are devoted to the characteristics of prosopography as an auxiliary research method. This method is used in works where the goal is not only to reconstruct the biography of a particular person, but also to create a collective biography. The article also compares related scientific disciplines that study human life: biography, genealogy, prosopography, demography and sociology. In the end, the author describes the advantages and disadvantages of prosopography as a research method, outlines the ways of its further development and comes to the conclusion that prosopography fully corresponds to modern trends in the development of interdisciplinary scientific knowledge.
